The original Seamaster launched in 1948, the year Omega celebrated its centenary. It was designed as a water-resistant everyday watch for post-war professionals — robust enough for outdoor life, refined enough for the office. The 70th Anniversary edition in 2018 returned to the proportions and design language of that first Seamaster, producing a piece that reads as a faithful historical document rather than a retrospective reimagining.
38mm in 2018 was a deliberate statement. The watch industry had spent years inflating case sizes toward 42 and 44mm, and Omega's decision to release the 70th Anniversary edition at the original 38mm specification was the brand saying that the original was right.
